I think others might find it very useful and I must admit my client requested this. Very useful on a limited scale and I would like to see if they can implement something of this nature on a larger scale. I just used Fred's descript ion for rotating text and am totally blown away! I never had to rotate text in Finale, and I forgot that the custom line tool would work. I wouldn't want to do a lot of this but it is a way to do it within Finale. Now you have custom text that can be rotated any way you want. Under "Character:" just select a blank space. Hit Edit and in the next dialog box select Text - Center Full: Edit and possibly Center Abbr.: Edit to enter your text. If you're using the shipping default file select the squiggly line with the text "Glissando" over it and hit Duplicate. To create the custom smart shape, Ctrl-click the Custom Line Tool to bring up the Smart Line Selection dialog box. Depending on the situation I would either import the text as a graphic or use a custom smart shape. You could output eps or PDF, open in Illustrator and rotate there, or bring the graphic into a page layout program (Quark or InDesign) and add the rotated text there.ĪFAIK this is not really supported in Finale. I don't know of a way to do that in Finale. Seems like this should be easy enough to do, but darned if I can find it. I.e., if you turn the music on its side, you can read the text.
